Story 6

This student found depression got to him when he started using alcohol and cannabis more heavily at college...

Just wanting to have a good time...

I think I suffer from undiagnosed bi-polar disorder, commonly known as manic depression. Since starting college I began smoking cannabis and drinking a lot more, simply to have a good time with like minded friends, and yes, it was fun. The problem was I started doing these things too much. The problem is that when you smoke cannabis, it either leaves you feeling really happy, or really depressed, depending on what mood you enter during consumption.

Quitting vs using responsibly

I decided to quit drugs and drink, but things got worse. Going cold turkey meant I could no longer partake in habits I enjoyed. Then it hit me, "Do these things responsibly". So now I do. If I'm feeling low, I won't touch these products, and if I'm feeling fine, then I will.

Less is more fun!

Also a good tip is to not do these things so much. I find cannabis is a lot more enjoyable if only done once every two weeks, sometimes even months apart. This makes the experience more enjoyable as it's less common, and becomes less of an everyday boring experience. I discovered that 3 joints a day just made me feel like killing myself, whereas consumption once or twice a month, or even two or three months, has allowed me to enjoy myself immensely on the odd occasions, whilst still keeping a clean head when it is needed.
